Why do you specialize in sports, action and event photography?
First off, I absolutely love all types of sports. I enjoy capturing moments that reflects the competitiveness of the human spirit. I’m always searching for that next great shot. Specifically, regarding youth sports, photos preserve your memories regardless of if they win or lose. I believe it helps young people develop self-confidence and is something they can be proud of. My photos can be shared and used on social media, printed, used in signing announcements and personal promotional opportunities.
Secondly, I enjoy the challenge of photographing in different locations and in a variety of conditions. I have photographed sports outside in -30° F, dark poorly lit gyms/fields as well as places with amazing lighting like U.S. Bank Stadium, Xcel Energy Center, Williams Arena and many others. As a professional photographer, I must know the sport, the environment and where to capture the athlete at just the right moment.
Lastly, as a parent, why have your face stuck behind a camera? By having me as your photograph you can sit back, enjoy the game and cheer on your favorite athlete or team.
You’re just taking pictures for an hour or so, why do you charge so much?
The short answer is it takes very expensive professional equipment and lots of time.
I use a professional full frame mirrorless cameras, lenses, computers, and software programs in my work. These items are very expensive to purchase and maintain.
Here is a little background on how I work. Typically, I arrive an hour or more before the game, select the best shooting location, custom adjust my camera settings to the environment, take some pregame warm up photos, and then shoot the entire game. Once I’m done, I spend hours in post-production, selecting, cropping, and color balancing the images.
If you want to hire someone to just show up and take pictures, that’s not me. I love what I do and pride myself on creating the best photos I can deliver to make your athlete look their best.
